I am currently investigating the possibilities and practicalities of research engagement in the teaching profession for my PhD at Liverpool John Moores University. Prior to this, I taught English in the secondary sector for six years, pursuing a Master’s of Education during my final 18 months of my teaching career. I am, therefore, interested in practitioner research, particularly as I have had first-hand experience of the benefits and pitfalls of researching one’s own practice.

For my undergraduate degree, I read English and Classical Literature at the University of Leeds from 2005 to 2008. I then received a distinction in my Post-graduate Diploma of Education (secondary) from the University of Glasgow and began my teaching career on the small Hebridean Isle of Barra. Relocating to Salford in 2010, I developed an interest in the cultural enrichment of my students from disadvantaged backgrounds, which became the focus of my MEd dissertation.

My interest in the research engagement of classroom teachers aligns with the new Chartered College of Teaching, of which I am a professional affiliate member and Lead Advocate for the Greater Manchester area. I am also a member of the British Educational Research Association.
